Samsung Galaxy Note 3
This is my current phone of choice. After years as a happy iPhone user I decided to migrate to the land of the Google. I will get into more about the iPhone later but the primary reasons I chose the Note 3 were:
What I didn't realize I would love about it until I started using it was the screen size. I never felt like my iPhone was too small, but once I used the Note for a full day and went to look for something on my iPhone it felt like the iPhone was a little toy. Droids in general are not for people that want to open their phone out of the box and have it work and never touch it again. Go with the iPhone for that. Droids are for people who enjoy going through every little setting to make the device work the way you want it, not the way Apple forces it. I am very happy with my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and look forward to seeing what else I can do with it over time.
- It is a Samsung product and the rest of my electronics are as well (fridge, TVs, etc...)
- It is a Google product and the rest of my online world is as well.
- It is very customizable to be whatever I want it to be.

Apple
I would love to put an image of an iPhone on my site but Apple is not friendly to using their brand so I won't expose myself to that fun. Here we go. I would summarize Apple as follows: I don't like the blind supporters, I do like their devices, their software needs a lot of work, and last but not least I am convinced they are set for more challeneges. I shall explain.
If you think Apple products are better because of Photoshop then I would appreciate it if you clicked whichever one of the confusing icons on the top of your screen closes my site, not minimize, not send to taskbar, just close it all together. Photoshop is no different on a Mac than it is a PC so talking about software differences just makes you sound silly. The argument I will listen to on Mac vs PC is about hardware. Macs won't break down as much. Some people love that, stick with Mac. I like the freedom of paying less initially and getting the parts I want, when one has an issue I can replace it with a newer part I want. Similar to my comment above about the Note 3, if you just want to open it up and live with what you get, Mac might be right for you. That covers the blind supporters.
As for their devices, there is no doubt that the iDevices revolutionized technology forever. I loved my iPhone for many years. I do believe everything went down hill when Steve Jobs died. I don't think he was involved in every little decision that made them great but I do think he was the last say on decisions that would have prevented things like the 5c from ever being rolled out. They just devalued all of their future phones just to give it some color. I ultimately left the iPhone for 2 reasons; first, it simply didn't connect to my life. I don't have any other Apple products other than an iPad. As soon as I put my email address into my Droid, I had contacts, pictures, bookmarks, etc... If all of your other devices are Apple, stick with Apple. If not, I say make the switch.
Now to the software. It got to the point where anytime I tried to update my phone through iTunes it erased the whole thing and the only way I avoided the hour long waits at the Apple store was by being pretty tech savvy and spending hours at my house recovering everything. Common responses I got to my complaints on Facebook were that I shouldn't update through iTunes. That means I shouldn't use iTunes in my mind. Not an issue anymore. Google Play lives on the web and I don't have to install anything or pay for cloud services to use it. In addition to the software driving the tools, the software options themselves have me a bit concerned. The App Store is one of the world's greatest client retention tools. Who can possibly throw away all of the money and time invested in apps that won't transfer over to another companies phone. Great business play there Apple, hats off to you on that strtagey back in the day.
Last but not least, Apple is set for some challenges based on recent decisions in my opinion. This really goes back to my previous comments about Steve Jobs being what prevented them from making bad decisions. While it even sounds silly to me, I just have to point out that they have not released anything impressive since he passed away and they ruined the value of the iPhone with the 5c and made a big deal out of the 5s which really just adds a fingerprint scanner that many people are disabling because it doesn't work well enough anyway. I hope for the stockholders out there that Apple has another revolutionary product on the horizon. Maybe they can reinvent the TV, or kitchen products like they did with music and phones over 10 years ago. Until then, I am taking a little break.
